Cable broadband and dial-up connections cannot be used

Solve the problem of unusable wired broadband connection

If you find that the computer cannot use the proxy after using a network cable to connect to wired broadband or dial-up connection, but the mobile phone hotspot connected through wifi works normally, it is most likely because your PPPOE dial-up uses Chinese naming (a historical legacy of the Windows system) BUG). Try this solution:

Solution 1 (only applicable to LibCyber Desktop V2.7.25 and above)​

  • Make sure the LibCyber Desktop version is V2.7.25 or above. If not, please update to the latest version first.

  • Open the main interface of LibCyber Desktop, click the gear in the lower right corner - Show more, click the little red dot in the upper right corner, enter the power-on password, and wait to turn on the enhanced mode.

  • Disconnect the wired broadband/dial-up connection first, and then change the network card name to an English name. The steps to modify the network card connection name are as follows:

  1. Enter regedit in the search bar of the Start menu and press Enter to enter the Registry Editor.

  2. Expand on the left and locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles

  3. Click the arrow to the left of Profiles and you will find that all your connections are displayed here.

  4. Click on these long-name folders. The last line ProfileName is the network connection name that can be modified.

  5. After finding the connection whose name you want to change, double-click ProfileName and change the numeric data to the name you like, such as "internet" (if necessary, you can change all connections under Profiles Rename both, wired network and wireless network can be named differently)

  6. You should now see changes in the taskbar network icon, Control Panel's "Network and Sharing Center", and "Settings → Network and Internet".

  7. Finally, it is recommended to go to Control Panel-Network-Network Adapter Settings and change the adapter setting name there to English.

  8. (Important) Restart the system, reconnect to the wired network, and then try to use the proxy.

If the above method cannot solve the problem, follow the steps below to install the auxiliary plug-in in Chrome and Edge browsers to use:

  • Make sure LibCyber Desktop is started.

  • Download the plug-in installation package: Click here to download

  • Unzip and get the SwitchyOmega_Chromium folder.

  • Open the Chrome browser, click the three dots in the upper right corner, and select More Tools-Extensions.

  • On the extension page, turn on developer mode in the upper right corner.

  • Click "Load unzipped extension" in the upper left corner and select the SwitchyOmega_Chromium folder you just unzipped.

  • After the installation is complete, a small circle icon plug-in will appear in the upper right corner of the browser. Click on it and select "LibCyber".

  • When you do not need to access overseas websites, you can switch the plug-in to "direct connection" mode or "system proxy" mode.
